About the Church
Pastor: Justin Haywood
A lifelong resident of Sallisaw, Justin and his wife Julie share deep family roots and a strong connection to the McKey community. Raised in church, he later came to realize the difference between simply growing up around faith and personally knowing Christ.
Today, his passion is helping others break down religious barriers and discover a true relationship with God through Christ. His life verse is Philippians 3.10: “That I may know Him, the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.”
Our Story
McKey Baptist Church, as it exists today, was founded in the mid-1970s. As the McKey community grew, the church expanded from a local schoolhouse into a dedicated place of worship. For over 50 years — and continuing today — our hope has remained the same: to share the love and truth of Jesus Christ with the McKey community.
What We Believe
We believe the Bible is God’s inspired Word, given as a gift to humanity so that we may know Him. We believe that Jesus of Nazareth is God’s only begotten Son, the Christ. We believe that through His sacrificial death on the cross, Jesus atoned for the sin of humanity, and that His resurrection sealed that atonement for all eternity.
We also believe in the Great Commission as Christ gave it:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
— Matthew 28:19–20 (ESV)

In light of this calling, we strive to help one another grow in grace and knowledge, so that we may faithfully carry the Gospel of Christ to the world — beginning with those closest to us, the McKey community.
